Marvin Orlando Johnson, 39, of Mechanicsville, was convicted of murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence and will remain behind bars without bond pending his sentencing, when he will face life in prison, plus an additional 20 years.
No details about his accomplish, Charlotte Hall resident Marlee Lynn Stokes, was provided by prosecutors.
Officials say that shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to conduct a welfare checkout an apartment in the 29000 block of Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville, where there were reports of a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival, they found Raymond Franklin Woods, Jr., dead on a couch with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The gunshot wound was determined to be a homicide following an investigation by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Johnson was initially charged with:
- First-degree murder;
- Second-degree murder;
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence;
- First-degree assault;
- Second-degree assault.
Stokes was charged with first-degree murder: accessory after the fact and second-degree murder: accessory after the fact.
